Gardner-Webb Baseball Earns Seventh Consecutive ABCA Team Academic Award

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Gardner-Webb baseball earned its seventh consecutive Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
More than 420 collegiate programs were honored in 2022. Teams on the list were required to carry a minimum team GPA of 3.00 (4.00 scale) during the 2021-2022 academic year.
A regular on the list, Gardner-Webb baseball excelled once again under head coach Jim Chester and his staff. GWU was one of six Big South institutions to be honored – with nominations due in mid-July.
The American Baseball Coaches Association, headquartered in nearby Greensboro, has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949. The ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/ATEC Regional and National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards – including the ABCA Hall of Fame and Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
The Diamond 'Dogs are also poised for another strong season on the field in 2023, with a host of returning talent – and several high profile newcomers – set to take Bill Masters Field next season.
