CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb's
Lauren Bevis was named Big South Conference women's basketball Co-Player of the Week on Monday following a sensational pair of games.
Bevis (High Point, N.C.) averaged 22.5 points per game for the Runnin' Bulldogs (16-4, 8-0 Big South) while shooting a sizzling 55.2 percent from the floor last week in wins over Longwood and Winthrop.
She also became the program's all-time leader in career three-pointers made in the Division I era, passing former sharpshooter Jasmine Dale – who drained 210 threes from 2010-2014. With her nine three-pointers last week, Bevis now sits at 213 three-pointers for her career.
Against the Lancers on Wednesday night, Bevis dropped in a season-high 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting – including 4-of-7 from deep – to lead the way. She scored those 26 points in only 28 minutes of play.
Against Winthrop, Bevis made five threes and scored 19 points in a comfortable victory for the first-place Runnin' Bulldogs. She also finished the week averaging 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game.
Bevis has sparked Gardner-Webb to its best 20-game start since 2010 and has her Runnin' Bulldogs sitting atop the Big South standings as league play nears the halfway point this week.
She is averaging a career-best 14.0 points per game and has knocked down 51-of-137 shots from long range. Bevis ranks third in the Big South in scoring and leads the league in three-pointers made and free throw percentage (.887).
Bevis has made 213-of-573 career threes (.372) and is a career 86 percent shooter from the free throw line (246-of-286) in 101 games played. She has also scored 1,161 career points.
Gardner-Webb is back in action on Wednesday night, traveling to face USC Upstate at 7:00 pm in a tough road test in Spartanburg, S.C. (ESPN+).
