CJ Czerwinski Named First Team All-CPL

Czerwinski helped lead Lexington County Blowfish to 2023 Petit Cup Championship
HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb pitcher CJ Czerwinski earned First Team All-CPL Honors for his performance this summer with the Lexington County Blowfish announced on Thursday, Oct. 5.
The Coastal Plain League is a summer collegiate wooden bat league, comprised of 14 franchises playing in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. To date, the CPL has had nearly 1,750 alumni drafted and 182 alums make their Major League debut. Notable alumni include Justin Verlander, Ryan Zimmerman, Mark Reynolds, Kevin Youkilis, Chris Taylor, Alec Bohm, Jake Cave, Chas McCormick and NFL Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson.
Czerwinski made ten appearances for the Blowfish this season, going 32.1 innings, striking out 43 batters and walking just 12, while finishing with an ERA of just 1.94.
The senior also earned a pair of wins this summer, going seven innings on July 27 against Forest City, allowing just one run off three hits and striking out nine batters. His second win came in a June 10 victory over Macon, throwing three shutout innings, allowing zero hits and striking out four in a 5-3 victory.
Czerwinski also earned one save, going four innings in a June 30 win over Forest City, allowing just one run off two hits while striking out nine batters.
The Red Lion, Pa. native helped lead the Blowfish to a 28-18 record and a victory in the Petit Cup Championship series.
Czerwinski is the first Runnin' Bulldog to earn All-CPL honors since Kyle Ruehlman and Joe Simone earned First Team All-CPL accolades following the 2020 season.
Czerwinski comes to Boiling Springs after spending the last four years at James Madison. In his career at James Madison, Czerwinski finished with a 4-3 record over 58.0 innings pitched, striking out 62 batters. Across his 23 appearances for the Dukes, Czerwinski made 10 starts. Czerwinski also excelled in the classroom, being named to the CAA Honor Roll in 2019 and 2020, while being named a JMU Scholar Athlete in 2023.
The Gardner-Webb baseball program is coming off a 31-25 season with a fourth-place finish in the Big South conference, along with seven players earning All-Conference honors.
