Gardner-Webb's Bobby Alcock Named Second Team Collegiate Baseball All-America

TUSCON, Ariz. – Gardner-Webb pitcher Bobby Alcock was named to the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division I All-America Second Team, powered by Diamond, on Thursday.
Alcock (Lynn, Mass. / Lynn English HS) is the first Gardner-Webb player to earn All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper since Colin Thacker did so in 2016.
The big right hander was also named Big South Conference Pitcher of the Year following the regular season in late May. He finished his 2023 season by going 7-3 with a 2.51 ERA and 106 strikeouts in 89.2 innings of work.
Alcock led the league in ERA, strikeouts, complete games (2) and opponents batting average (.180), while ranking second in innings pitched and games started.
He was even better in Big South games, winning five games with a 1.79 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 60.1 innings. He paced the circuit with 10.89 strikeouts in Big South games and held hitters to a frigid .155 batting average.
Alcock finished the season with three combined shutouts. He has recorded 185 career strikeouts in 156.2 innings of work with Gardner-Webb, making 28 starts over parts of three seasons. He started 11 games as a freshman in 2021, before missing most of the 2022 season.
He rebounded to post career-bests in 11 different pitching categories in 2023.
