Bobby Alcock earns ABCA/Rawlings Second Team All-Region honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) announced the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Region Teams naming Bobby Alcock to the Second Team in the Atlantic Region.
The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America Committee.
Alcock becomes just the third player in school history to earn the honor and first GWU player to receive it since 2021. The last pair of players were each in 2021 with Patrick Ferguson and Mason Miller both being selected to the Second Team. He is one of just five players from the Big South Conference to earn the honor this season.
Alcock was selected as the 2023 Big South Pitcher of the Year as well as a First-Team All-Conference performer and twice as the Big South Starting Pitcher of the Week (3/20 & 4/10). Alcock started in 14 games on the year posting a 7-3 record while serving as the team's #1 starter.
The redshirt-sophomore led the conference in ERA at 2.51, opponent's batting average at .180 and strikeouts with 106 while throwing 89.2 innings, second-most in the league. Alcock had just 5.62 hits allowed per nine innings to top the Big South and rank 9th nationally.
Recently, Alcock was named to the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division I All-America Second Team, powered by Diamond. He became the first player to receive an All-America honor from them since Collin Thacker did in 2016.
Founded in 1945, the American Baseball Coaches Association is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 15,000 members represent all 50 states and 40 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include nine divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School, Youth and Travel.
