Baseball Earns ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award

It is the eighth straight season the Runnin' Bulldogs have earned the honor
GREENSBORO, N.C. - For the eighth straight year, the Gardner-Webb baseball team earned the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, announced on Wednesday, July 26.
Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with this year's award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the entire 2022-23 academic year. A total of 450 college programs were honored this season.
The Gardner-Webb baseball team earned a 3.46 cumulative GPA during the 2022-23 academic year. During the 2022 fall semester, the 'Dawgs posted a 3.60 GPA, the highest in program history. GWU finished the spring semester with a 3.53 GPA. The Runnin' Bulldogs have earned the ABCA honor in every season under Head Coach Jim Chester.
Gardner-Webb was one of six schools in the Big South Conference to earn the honor.
The American Baseball Coaches Association, headquartered in nearby Greensboro, has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949. The ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/ATEC Regional and National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards – including the ABCA Hall of Fame and Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
The Gardner-Webb baseball program is coming off a 31-25 season with a fourth-place finish in the Big South conference, along with seven players earning All-Conference honors.
