BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - After a weekend of noteworthy performances, junior Justin Bender of the Gardner-Webb University swimming team and freshman Maja Rohkohl of the Gardner-Webb University women's basketball team have been named GWU Athletes of The Week
On the basketball court, Rohkohl put together two of the best performances of her young Gardner-Webb career so far. On Thursday night in Charlotte, the Hannover, Germany native scored nine points, grabbed eight rebounds including three offensive boards, hit a pair of field goals and scored the first seven points of the second half in a row for the Runnin' Bulldogs. Rohkohl followed up against Johnson C. Smith on Saturday by grabbing six offensive rebounds and nine total boards, with her offensive rebounding mark being by far the best by a GWU player this season.
In the pool, Bender helped pace Gardner-Webb to a fifth place team finish in the four-day Queens Fall Frenzy. The Alpharetta, Ga. native had a record setting weekend for the Runnin' Bulldogs, setting multiple school records between the 100 yard and 200 yard breaststroke finals. These included times of 53.11 and second pace in the men's 100 yard and 1:57.62 and second place in the men's 200 yard.
Gardner-Webb will return to action in women's basketball on November 27th at App State, and in swimming against Catawba at home on January 10th.
