
Gardner-Webb Falls to Akron Despite Second Half Surge

Zips able to stay ahead of second half scoring barrage from the Runnin’ Bulldogs
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University women's lacrosse team fell to the University on Saturday by a final score of 15-9. The Runnin' Bulldogs tallied seven second half goals to push the Zips ultimately dropping the game by six.
Gardner-Webb struck first with Brittany Sherrod finding the back of the net at 11:13 in the first. Akron scored for before Aimie Perino made it 4-2. Akron tallied four more to take an 8-2 lead into the break.
The 'Dawgs were off and Runnin' to start the third quarter with Taylor Tobin, Rebecca Ferrina, Mackenzie Gallery, and Sherrod all scoring in the period. GWU's Gallery, Emma Duchscherer and Perino scored to bring the 'Dawgs within three goals (12-9) with 8:34 left to play. Akron ultimately scored three goals in the final three minutes of the game to stay just ahead of Gardner-Webb.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will be on the road at Stetson University on Tuesday, March 6 for a 12:00 p.m. first draw.
