Baseball Announces Changes to Coaching Staff Ahead of 2025 Season

| By:
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Head coach Jim Chester of the Gardner-Webb University baseball team has announced changes to the coaching staff for the upcoming 2025 season.

Former pitching coach Rob Hardy has left the program to pursue career opportunities withing the Chicago White Sox organization. "I am most thankful for Rob", stated Chester. "He poured so much into our student-athletes and this is a great move for him and his family! He will forever be part of the Gardner-Webb baseball family and we would like to wish him, Kayla, and Hudson nothing but the best."

With the departure of Hardy, Tom Cockill, in his second year with the program, has been promoted to title of Pitching Coach. Cockill was a player under Chester during the 2016 and 2017 seasons at Lock Haven. "This was a no-brainer," said Chester. " He played for me and is loyal as well as displays an extreme passion for coaching, Gardner-Webb, and our pitching staff. I am excited to watch him continue to grow and the success of the staff."

Avery Bridges will take over the role of Director of Player Development. "We are excited to welcome Avery to Gardner-Webb baseball," said Chester. "He came highly recommended to us, and his skill set will make an automatic impact within our program!"

Gardner-Webb opens the season on Friday, February 14, playing host to St. Bonaventure in a four-game set on Bill Masters Field. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
