
Poulin and Kennell Take Home GWU Athlete of The Week Awards

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - After outstanding performances on the court and on the diamond, sophomore Alizée Poulin of the Gardner-Webb University women's tennis team and junior Ryan Kennell of the Gardner-Webb University baseball team have been named GWU Athletes of The Week
In women's tennis, Poulin was excellent for the 'Dawgs as the team finished a 3-0 week. Poulin not only finished 3-0 as an individual on No. 2 singles, but finished 2-0 on No. 3 singles as well to win five matches for the week. On Wednesday against College of Charleston, Poulin scored a 6-3, 7-5 win on singles and a 7-5 win on doubles alongside Greta Murzsa. She then defeated her opposition from Longwood 6-1, 6-2 in singles on Friday, before wrapping up the week with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 singles win and a 6-4 doubles win with Murzsa against Presbyterian on Monday.
In baseball, Kennell batted .650 over four games, going 13-for-20 with five runs, six RBI, two doubles, and a stolen base for Gardner-Webb. He recorded multiple hits in every game, including at least three in three of the four contests, highlighted by a five-hit performance. He slugged .750 and posted a .667 on-base percentage with no strikeouts in 20 at-bats from the leadoff spot. Kennell went 3-for-5 with a double and a career-high four RBI in Tuesday's 11-4 win over Western Carolina. He opened the weekend series against UNC Asheville with another 3-for-5 effort Friday, adding a double and a run scored. On Saturday, he delivered a perfect 5-for-5 performance with two runs, an RBI, and a stolen base before capping the series with two more hits, a run, and an RBI in the finale.
Gardner-Webb returns to action in baseball on Tuesday night, March 18th at Georgia Tech, while women's tennis takes the court against North Carolina A&T on Wednesday, March 19th
