Runnin' Bulldogs Continue Impressive Run; Walk App State Off For Third Straight Game

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Redshirt senior Kelvin Agosto delivered a clutch game-winning hit, lifting the Gardner-Webb (9-3) baseball team to a thrilling 8-7 win over visiting App State (7-4) on Sunday afternoon at John Henry Moss Stadium. The walk off win is the Runnin' Bulldogs third in a row while pushing the winning streak to six consecutive games.

Gardner-Webb struck first, plating two runs in the opening inning to set the tone early. Senior Ryan Kennell delivered an RBI hit while a throwing error by the Mountaineers defense allowed a second run to score.

After App State trimmed the lead to 2-1, the Runnin' Bulldogs added three more in the fourth, highlighted by timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to build a 5-1 advantage, the big blow coming off the bat of junior Allan Camarillo, who doubled home two runs.

Agosto paced the offense with a 2-for-6 afternoon and two RBI, while Kennell delivered a three-hit performance and drove in a pair. Camarillo also tallied two hits and two RBI, continuing his steady presence in the middle of the lineup.

After App State chipped away and used a three-run eighth inning and a two-run ninth to knot the score at 7-7, the Runnin' Bulldogs refused to back down.

On the mound, Reid Bertram gave the Dawgs a strong start, working six innings while allowing just two runs and striking out two. Colby Humphries bridged the middle innings before Anthony Hausner turned in a gutsy relief performance down the stretch. Hausner (1-0) tossed 3.2 innings, striking out three and holding App State to two runs to earn the win.

In the 11th inning, Gardner-Webb capitalized on a scoring opportunity to bring home the decisive run with two outs, sealing the walk-off with Agosto's timely hit.

The Runnin' Bulldogs return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 3, traveling to Durham, N.C. to take on Duke in a mid-week affair. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
