BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Stepping out of conference play, Gardner-Webb baseball welcomes the Aggies of North Carolina A&T to Bill Masters Field for a midweek clash.
Dawgs on the Diamond: Kelvin Agosto continues to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs at the dish, batting a team-best .391 to go along with 22 RBIs. Agosto leads the Dawgs with 34 hits and 20 runs scored. Coming on strong, Drew Ripepi has moved into second on the team with a .370 batting average while starting 15-of-21 games for Gardner-Webb.
Matt Ilgenfritz has supplied the power for the Dawgs, blasting a team-leading eight homeruns to go along with a .330 average and 26 RBIs. Ilgenfritz has also matched Agosto with 20 runs scored. Ryan Kennell has added a .318 average and 18 RBIs.
Oliver Ellison and Reid Bertram lead the club with three wins each while Bertram has a complete game to his credit. Newcomer Colby Putnam has dazzled out of the pen for Gardner-Webb, compiling a 2-1 overall record in seven appearances.
Series with the Aggies: Tuesday's game marks the 27th in the series between Gardner-Webb and A&T. The Runnin' Bulldogs hold a commanding 18-8 advantage in the series, but the Aggies have won three of the last four meetings. Gardner-Webb picked up a 20-10 win on April 3, 2024, during the two teams last matchup.
Scouting North Carolina A&T: The Aggies are off to a tough 4-18 start to the season after dropping a three-game set with William & Mary over the weekend. A&T has dropped eight of its last nine games.
NC A&T is led by Nick DiCarlo's .376 batting average, the only Aggie hitting over .300 on the year. DiCarlo leads the club with 32 hits while Tyler Smith is hitting at a .279 clip to go along with a team second-best 15 RBIs. Bruce Wyche has driven in a team-high 18 runs while Marcus Bradshaw and Savoi Edwards have hit two home runs each. The Aggies pitching staff has a combined ERA of 7.39 in 182.2 innings pitched.
