BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb baseball returns home to face league-leading Winthrop on April 24-26 at John Henry Moss Stadium

Gardner-Webb fell to Western Carolina, 11-1, in a non-conference clash this past Tuesday at home. In their last weekend series, the Runnin' Bulldogs dropped two of three at Radford.

Kelvin Agosto continues to lead the Big South at the plate, raking at a .391 average, including a team-best 59 hits and 38 RBIs. Agosto has also cranked six long balls on the season. Drew Ripepi is top 10 in the league with a .333 average that includes seven homeruns and three doubles. Starting in all 39 games, Ryan Kennell also hits above .300, currently sitting at .312 on the year, including a team second-best 49 hits.

The Runnin' Bulldogs currently have three players hitting over .300 as they are third in the Big South with a team average of .292. Matt Ilgenfritz has supplied the power for Gardner-Webb, belting a team-leading nine homeruns, which is fifth in the league. Merik Carter has added seven homers out of his leadoff position while drawing a league-best 39 walks.

Oliver Ellison leads the Dawgs with four wins on the season. Ellison, Gardner-Webb's game one starter, has a team-high 53 strikeouts to only 17 walks while throwing 62.0 innings.

Winthrop is 27-14 on the year while leading the Big South at 10-2 in league play. The Eagles won four in a row, including a sweep of USC Upstate, before dropping a 10-8 decision against Elon in their last outing. Winthrop has dropped one series in conference play, losing two-of-three at Presbyterian.

Corey Wouters leads the Eagles with a .342 batting average while sitting atop the club with 51 hits. Gabe Natividad adds a .318 average while Jaylen Hernandez has a conference-leading 14 home runs. Winthrop has a team ERA of 4.69

Winthrop leads the overall series with the Runnin' Bulldogs by a tally of 30-27, winning the previous five contests. Gardner-Webb's last win in the series came on March 22, 2024 in Boiling Springs.
