Robby Swab is in his first season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Gardner-Webb program, coming to Boiling Springs after completing his playing career at Big South rival Presbyterian College.
Swab will work with catchers at GWU, a position he is familiar with after excelling on the collegiate level with the Blue Hose. Swab batted .292 last season with Presbyterian, making 24 starts and seeing action in 37 games. He had 26 hits, drove in 14 runs and scored 10 times. He also fielded a strong .992 and had a solid year defensively behind the plate.
Swab finished with five hits in three games against Gardner-Webb in John Henry Moss Stadium in 2013, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored in the second game of the series.
Swab batted .302 as a junior in 44 games played, after transferring from Young Harris (Ga.) College.
In two seasons with Presbyterian, Swab committed only two errors.
Swab played prep baseball in the Tar Heel State at East Forsyth in Kernersville, earning All-State honors as a senior. His brother Kenny Swab played at the University of Virginia and is a minor league prospect with the Kansas City Royals.
Swab is a 2013 graduate of Presbyterian College.
