Men Finish Fourth, Women Eighth at 2019 CCSA Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Gardner-Webb men's swimming team placed fourth, while the women's team placed eighth as action wrapped up at the 2019 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Swimming and Diving Championships, taking place at Liberty University's Liberty Natatorium.
 
Incarnate Word took home the men's title, while Liberty claimed the women's championship.
 
In Saturday's finals, Gardner-Webb added one podium finish to its week, which saw the Runnin' Bulldogs have a total of 11 All-Conference performances throughout the four-day event as the team battled through adversity, with the majority of the team battled illness over the past few days.
 
Tim Bennett was named the Men's Most Outstanding Freshman Performer of the Championship, as he was part of six All-Conference finishes, including three first-place results.
 
Saturday evening, Tim Bennett earned All-Conference honors in the men's 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall at 1:48.28 to finish in third place.  Joshua Clarke placed 11th at 1:50.74, followed by Christian Jann in 12th at 1:52.84.
 
The men's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Tim Bennett, Brady Fields, Peter Wakeley, and Drew Mintz finished fourth with a time of 3:03.04.
 
Tessa Walsh claimed a fifth place finish in the women's 200-yard butterfly, timing in at 2:03.64.  Mary Traylor finished eighth with a time of 2:04.29, and Carol Zangla finished 16th at 2:08.11.
 
Peter Wakeley finished fifth in the men's 200-yard butterfly, timing in at 1:51.43. Chase Mattingly finished 11th, clocking in at 1:50.76.
 
In the women's 1,650 freestyle, Morgan VanderSchaaf finished sixth with a time of 17:11.82.  Kate Arceneaux finished ninth, clocking in at 17:27.51.
 
The women's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Blake Broullire, Tessa Walsh, Carol Zangla, and Jennifer Jackson placed eighth overall with a time of 3.32.46.
 
Drew Mintz took home a ninth place finish in the men's 100-yard freestyle, timing in at 46.15 seconds.
 
In the women's 200-yard breaststroke, Whitney Peters led GWU with a tenth place finish with a time of 2:21.41.  Anna Banick finished 16th with a time of 2:26.53.
 
Drew Peden paced the 'Dogs in the men's 1,650-yard freestyle, timing in at 16:29.04 to place tenth overall.
 
Brendan Teeters finished 14th overall In the men's 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 2:10.89.
 
In the women's 200-yard backstroke, Spencer Lucas finished 15th with a time of 2:05.57.  Mary Traylor finished 17th, clocking in at 2:06.06, and Laura Wakeley placed 21st at 2:07.18
 
Blake Brollire finished 20th in the women's 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.12 seconds.
