BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University baseball team defeated the Mountaineers of Appalachian State University on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 5-1. It was the second of a three-game weekend series. The Runnin' Bulldogs allowed just one run and hit three home runs on the day.
The Mountaineers got on the board for the only time in the ballgame in the first inning as
Michael Ciminiello worked his way out of a jam to only allow one across. The 'Dawgs came out Runnin' in the second as
Humberto Torres hit his second homerun of the weekend to tie the game.
Tommy Tavarez followed him up in the fourth with a two-run shot over the left field fence.
Ethan Liao hit a no-doubter to the same location in the fifth inning. Tavarez added one more RBI in the sixth batting in
Wade Kelly.
Connor Maggi,
Creighton Hansen, and
Devin Pressley blanked App State out of the bullpen to earn the 5-1 win.
