September 08, 2024 | Women's Soccer
BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb University women's soccer team fell on the road against Campbell on Sunday afternoon, with the home side using three first half goals to pull away from the Runnin' Bulldogs
In search of a result, GWU got off to a solid start. Graduate forward Abby Clark recorded the first shot of the game inside four minutes, producing a save from the Campbell keeper.
However, after Campbell attacked with a series of corner kicks, the Camels eventually broke through with two goals within three minutes of each other, seeing the Runnin' Bulldogs behind 2-0 just minutes after nearly finding the scoreboard first.
The Red and Black kept up some good pressure in the attacking end, but again the Camels made the most of a similar amount of chances, going 3-0 up after 23 minutes.
The home side found one more goal early in the second half and with the Runnin' Bulldogs unable to find an answer, Gardner-Webb fell by a 4-0 final score.
Gardner-Webb was led by senior defender Lea Gossett, who placed two shots on goal in the contest.
GWU now sets sight on Elon, who visit Boiling Springs in non-conference action on September 12th at 7 p.m.
