BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb (12-2-2, 5-1-1) men's soccer team is set to host the No. 3 seed Presbyterian (7-7-5, 3-3-1) Blue Hose in the semifinal round of the Big South Men's Soccer Championship on Sunday afternoon at Greene Harbison Stadium.
This contest marks the 17th all-time meeting between the Runnin' Bulldogs and Blue Hose with the series heavily in favor of Gardner-Webb, 13-1-3. Gardner-Webb took the regular season meeting against PC, 2-0, in Clinton, S.C.
Gardner-Webb earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament after taking down UNC Asheville in the regular season finale on Saturday, November 1. This marks the second consecutive year the Runnin' Bulldogs will enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed.
Samson Kpardeh leads the Dawgs with seven goals top go along with two assists. Jaylen Orr and Robbie Lyons have added five goals each while Lyons has added a team-high four assists on the season. Teammate Breno Correia has also chipped in four helpers. Javan Ochieng has scored four goals as GWU is outscoring their opponents 30-12 through regular season games. Alan Horrocks has played all 1,440 minutes in goal, producing nine clean sheets and 40 saves.
Presbyterian is coming into the contest with a 7-7-5 overall record and 3-3-1 mark in league play. The Blue Hose collected a 3-1 win over Radford in the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
The Blue Hose are led by Iragi Kalala, who has a team-high six goals while adding an assist. Steven Cordova is second on the club with three goals. Aloni Elfu has posted a team-best five assists. For the year, Presbyterian is being outscored by its opponents by a margin of 27-26. Lucca Barros has played all 1,710 minutes in goal for the Blue Hose, collecting 67 saves and six shutouts.
